Paint the stamp with glass paint.

Print the bottle. Depending on the bottle’s size, you may be able to print multiple chevron shapes in vertical and horizontal directions.

Wash the stamp.

Allow the paint to dry.

Touch up with a brush and paint if desired.

REPTILE BIRD CHILDREN

My children love pretending to be animals. Birds, particularly raptors, and reptiles are some of their favorites. Emmett’s imaginary friend is a blue-tailed hawk, and a chipmunk-eagle crashed into our window last week. So, when I discovered temporary tattoo stamp pads, I knew the boys would be excited to transform their little bodies into creatures! On the day that I printed the boys, a few minutes before we began, our neighbors magically caught a cute little garter snake and let us take it home. Emmett made sure that I followed the natural color palette of its scales while printing. The snake was very happy to be released in our garden that evening.

Materials

• A child or 2—or if children are not available, 1 willing adult

• Rubber carving block

• Temporary tattoo stamp ink in blue, green, and henna (or colors of your choice)

• Craft knife, such as an X-ACTO, or precision scissors

• Carving tools

• Soft pencil, such as 5B

Instructions

Refer to Block Printing.

Transfer the Scale/Feather pattern to the block.

Carve the stamp with carving tools and the craft knife or precision scissors.
